Alterarosa - 8e édition - rencontre autour de la rose
Palais des Papes, Avignon

La plus romantique des fleurs s’installe à nouveau au Palais des Papes pendant tout le week-end de l’Ascension : 2000 rosiers, les dernières créations des plus grands rosiéristes transforment le cloître Benoit XII en une féérique roseraie. Conférences, démonstrations, ateliers d’art floral pour petits et grands et autres surprises sont au programme. Pour cette édition, c’est l’hortensia qui accompagnera la reine des fleurs. L’association Geist 21 Vaucluse, pour l’insertion sociale des porteurs de trisomie 21, sera l’invitée d’honneur de la manifestation. Une rose sera créée et baptisée à son intention et vendue à son profit.

Throughout the entire Ascension Holiday weekend, over 2000 rosebushes fill the Benedict XII Cloister with their fragrant blooms, and the general public has the chance to discover the great rose growers’ latest creations. For this edition, it is the hydrangea which will be the partner of the queen of flowers.
Alterarosa continues its commitment to handicapped audiences by facilitating access to the exhibition and providing communication and awareness-raising. Pruning demonstrations, conferences, floral art workshops for all ages, advice and recommendations await you.
Geist 21 association, for the social integration of the carriers of trisomy 21, will be the guest of the demonstration.

Nadar et ses contemporains

Félix Tournachon dit Nadar ( 1820-1910) marqua les débuts de la photographie par ses portraits d’artistes célèbres. Le prêt de cent vingt clichés du fonds Nadar du Ministère de la Culture (Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine) permet d’établir des liens entre la photographie et l’art théâtral : portraits d’actrices immortalisées dans leur costumes de scènes ou représentations théâtrales immobilisées pour le photographe. Les photographes exposés : Félix et Paul Nadar, leurs contemporains Henri Manuel, Constant Puyo à Paris, mais aussi quelques photographes avignonnais représentés aux Archives municipales d’Avignon qui ont su saisir quelques images de théâtre ou fêtes régionales. La fortune du collectionneur et mécène Doucet provenait de sa maison de couture rue de la Paix, où les grandes actrices de l’époque aimaient s’habiller à la ville ou à la scène : parmi elles : Sarah Bernhardt, Réjane ou Cécile Sorel.

Nadar and his contemporaries

Félix Tournachon, known as Nadar (1820-1910) pioneered the early days in the field of photography, with his portraits of famous artists. The loan of one hundred and twenty photographs from the Nadar collection which belongs to the Ministry of Culture (Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine) enables us to establish connections between photography and the dramatic arts with portraits of actresses immortalized in their theatrical costumes and poses, captured by Nadar. Photographers on display in this exhibit: Félix and Paul Nadar, their peers Henri Manuel, Constant Puyo in Paris, and some Avignon photographers, with photographs of theatre and regional festivities, from the Avignon City Archives. Art collector and benefactor Jacques Doucet made his fortune from his couturier workshops on famous Rue de la Paix in Paris, where the great actresses of the time came and had their clothes made, for both their social life and their stage appearances. Among his clients were Sarah Bernhardt, Réjane and Cécile Sorel.

Marcel Puech, la passion du dessin

Cette exposition est un hommage au collectionneur avignonnais Marcel Puech, qui a fait don de près de 1000 dessins, de toutes les écoles européennes du 15è au 20è siècle, au musée Calvet entre 1996 et 1998. Un total de 110 dessins ont été ici sélectionnés pour l’exposition répartie en 2 thèmes sur 2 périodes. La première partie, intitulée Le Message chrétien, est présentée du 12 mai au 8 octobre 2012, tandis que la seconde, L’Idéal antique, se déroulera du 1er novembre 2012 au 18 mars 2013. Les deux expositions abordent deux faces de notre culture : la première l’héritage judéo-chrétien, la seconde l’art gréco-romain antique.

Marcel Puech, passion for drawings

Exhibition of 110 drawings from 2 periods, on 2 themes, from the collection which belonged to famous Avignon collector Marcel Puech. This exhibit pays tribute to Marcel Puech, who donated to the Calvet Museum nearly 1000 drawings from all the European schools between the 15th and 20th centuries. From the drawings donated to the museum between 1996 and 1998, the Calvet Museum has put together an exhibit in two parts. The first part is entitled The Christian Message, and is on display from 12 May to 8 October 2012. The second part, The Antique Ideal, takes place from 1 November 2012 to 18 March 2013. Both exhibits examine aspects of western culture, looking at the Judeo-Christian heritage and ancient Greek and Roman art.

la redécouverte d’un retable oublié de Battista di Gerio.

Le Musée du Petit Palais présente, une exposition-dossier d’une quinzaine d’œuvres intitulée « peindre en Toscane entre Gothique et Renaissance, la redécouverte d’un retable oublié de Battista di Gerio. » Cette exposition permet de dévoiler une oeuvre importante de Battista di Gerio, peintre ayant travaillé à Lucques au début du XVe siècle : le triptyque de l’église San Quirico all’Olivo. La reconstitution de ce triptyque dont les divers panneaux appartiennent respectivement à Avignon, Lucques et Philadelphie, est accompagnée d’un dispositif didactique présentant les études scientifiques des panneaux d’Avignon et de Lucques ainsi que les restaurations récentes dont ils viennent de faire l’objet. L’exposition présente également les oeuvres d’autres peintres ayant travaillé à Lucques et appartenant au musée du Petit Palais, elle est complétée par des prêts d’autres musées français et de la Collection Alana (USA). Un cycle de conférences et des visites thématiques autour même du thème accompagnent la manifestation.

Painting Tuscany between Gothic and Renaissance,
Rediscovering a missing altarpiece by Battista di Gerio.

The beautiful Petit Palais museum presents an exhibit focusing of fifteen works which bring to life the workshops painting in Tuscany between the Gothic and Renaissance periods. The exhibit entitled “Rediscovering an altarpiece by Battista di Gerio” reveals an important painting by Battista di Gerio, an artist who worked in Lucca, Italy in the early 15th century, the Tryptich from the Church San Quirico all’Olivo. This tryptich has been brought together, reassembling the various panels which belong to Avignon, Lucca and Philadelphia, respectively. A series of informative documents accompany the exhibition, presenting the scientific work on the Avignon and Lucca panels and the recent restoration work. The exhibition also displays works in the Petit Palais Museum collection, by other painters who worked in Lucca. Loans from other French museums and the Alana Collection in the United States add to the exhibit. A series of lectures and theme tours add to the interest and provide the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating, productive period.

PONT SAINT BENEZET - Projet de restitution en 3D
Pour imaginer l’ampleur et l’importance au Moyen-Age de ce monument de 22 arches, un projet est en cours, permettant grâce à la 3D de reconstituer l’ouvrage. L’espace « D’une rive à l’autre, le Pont reconstruit en 3D » présente l’aventure humaine, technique et scientifique qui unit actuellement 4 laboratoires du CNRS dans ce projet unique de reconstitution du Pont et de son paysage médiéval.

The Avignon Bridge (Pont Saint-Bénezet) - 3D Reconstruction project
A new project is underway to give life to the size and importance of the Avignon Bridge in the Middle Ages – with its 22 arches spanning both arms of the Rhone river. This new 3D project recreates the bridge as it stood in its early days. The space christened “Spanning the Rhone River – a 3D reconstruction of the Avignon Bridge” will be showing the human, technical and scientific adventure undertaken. This project combines the talent from 4 CNRS laboratories working on this unique project of recreating the Bridge and its medieval landscape.

Nouvelle visite multimédia en juin 2012: les fastes du Palais comme au temps des papes.
Cet été, le Palais des Papes présentera un nouveau parcours de visite multimédia avec un système d’audioguide PDA novateur, dialoguant avec des animations vidéo 2D et 3D. Le visiteur revivra les fastes de la cour pontificale comme au XIVème siècle grâce aux commentaires illustrés par des animations et les reconstitutions des décors des salles : mobiliers, fresques, tentures, enluminures... Le déploiement de ces dispositifs sur l’ensemble du parcours du monument constituera une première en Europe.

New multimedia visit of the Palace in June 2012: the splendours of Papal times at the Palace.
This summer, the Palace of the Popes will be presenting a brand new multi-media visit itinerary through the Palace, with an innovative PDA audioguide system which dialogues with 2D and 3D animations. The visitor relives the splendours of the Pontifical Court in the 14th century, with guided commentary illustrated with animations and historical reconstitutions of the decors that embellished the rooms. Furnishings, frescoes, wall-hangings and illuminations… The deployment of this ambitious new system throughout the Palace will be a major first in Europe.
